Software Development Manager (SDM) in the Technology Solution Department, Asia-Pacific and European Region

3. REPORTING LINE

The Software Development Manager (SDM), Technology Solution Department, Asia-Pacific Region, reports directly to 

• The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), CEO Office, Singapore HQ, Asia-Pacific Region on budget, resources, and administrative topics.
• The Software Development Manager (SDM), SGH Group, European Region on software solution development topics.

4. POSITION SUMMARY

• A challenging and responsible Software Development Manager (SDM) position with a dynamic and exciting multi-national Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Solutions Provider.
• SGH Asia is expanding and looking to recruit a SDM to drive the development of the company’s ICT Solutions and Services in the Vietnam and worldwide markets.
• The SDM will focus strictly on solution development activities as well as nurturing and engaging engineers to build highly effective teams.
• The SDM will demonstrate attention to detail in delivering high standards of software solutions, to ensure customer satisfaction at an optimal cost.

5. ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support and collaborate with our engineers on designing and developing high quality software.
• Mentor and guide engineers on applying software development best practices and choosing the right trade-offs.
• Mentor engineers on growing their skills (including identifying and planning training opportunities)
• Provide advice, guidance, and support to team members in times of conflict.
• Provide performance feedback and reviews, and address promotions as well as remedial actions.
• Lead the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of software engineers.
• Communicate the status of projects between teams, the organization, and stakeholders.
• Determine appropriate resources and synchronize efforts between software development teams and other internal groups to make best use of engineer’s skills in designing, building, testing, and releasing on-time, high quality software.
• Interact with prospective clients to lead the technical project overview, help identify and present technical approaches, and contribute to the estimates and proposed solution.

6. SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• 3+ years managing software engineers.
• 8+ years professional software development experience.
• Proficiency with principles of software engineering, the software development life cycle, and software development best-practices.
• Solid understanding of computer science topics such as software architecting, algorithms, data structures, object-oriented design, and database design.
• Good understanding in a modern programming language/framework such as (but not limited to) Java, Nodejs, Python or Ruby.
• Demonstrated understanding of cloud technologies, and SaaS concepts.
• Experience with SCRUM and Waterfall frameworks (methodologies, and tools).
• Excellent problem-solving skills, independent and result-oriented way of thinking.
• Proven success creating alignment with senior leadership.
• Proven success nurturing a collaborative team culture.
• Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
• Training and experience in building high performing teams is highly preferred.

7. EDUCATION

Minimum Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
